Overview[ | ]

Balthas is a member of the order of the Keepers, sworn to serve goddess Eterra. He is a wise priest ordained with the safekeeping of a shard of the Epoch, carrying it between fortified strongholds, hidden from curious eyes.

Balthas has also harnessed nature's powers well. He also has a faithful dragonfly-like companion, which he commands into battle, should the need call for it.

History[ | ]

Divine era[ | ]

As the Osprix leader, Rahyeh decides to wage war on the Eterran nations and tribes and launches an all-out campaign, the Keepers are also becoming a target. Through a vision, Haruspex Orian, senses the presence a Shard of the Epoch and over time he pinpoints its location, attacking Balthas and his guards in a Keeper Vault.

Moments away from grabbing Balthas, the Traveler joins him and repel the initial wave of Osprix warriors. Balthas is however taken successfully by Orian and his mount, and he is freed only later, after the Traveler beats Orian mercilessly in a duel.

After returning to the Keeper camp, Balthas decides voluntarily that their only hope is to send the Traveler and himself forward in time, despite the Order's laws and Keeper Leena's loud opposition.

Ruined era[ | ]

As Balthas travels to the far future a few thousand years later, he recognizes the Void's sweeping eruption, devouring all it encounters. To carry on with his roots, Balthas decides that the Keeper traditions must be parted with and reforms the Order into the Elders of Last Refuge, sheltering humankind until the last moment possible. He does not live the moment of the Traveler's arrival.

As companion[ | ]

Balthas fights with the power of nature, accompanying the player through The Keepers' Vault. He uses his dragonfly to shoot single armor-shredding projectiles, as well as a barrage, making him greatly useful in assisting in physical attacks. Rarely he can also unleash a straight green beam in front of himself.
